Angleton-based party band Southbound 288 will be providing the musical entertainment for the Columbia Heritage Foundation at Saturday night’s Roughneck Blowout at Heritage Hall in West Columbia. This year’s annual Roughneck Blowout will kick off at 5 p.m. Saturday, October 4th, with an hour set aside for those in attendance to visit with old high school classmates and friends. A chicken fried streak meal catered by Filipp’s Cafe’ of Danbury will be served at 6 p.m., followed by a live auction and then the popular local band will take the stage around 8 p.m. and play until 11 p.m.

Southbound 288 is led by guitarist Reece Cadenhead, an Angleton High School and Texas A&M graduate, and his wife, Katie Cadenhead, on lead vocals. Reece is the son of two Columbia High School grads who will be returning to West Columbia for Saturday night’s Big Blowout multi-class reunion. Kevin Cadenhead, Reece’s Dad, is a member of Southbound 288. Kevin will be making a return to the basketball court where he once starred as a seventh and eighth grader at West Columbia Junior High School. Heritage Hall, now a popular party venue on East Bernard Street in West Columbia, used to be the junior high gym prior to West Brazos Junior High School opening in the Wild Peach area near Brazoria.

Tickets for the October 4th event at Heritage Hall are $50 each if purchased prior to the Roughneck Blowout. They will be $60 if bought at the door Saturday. All proceeds from the Columbia High School multi-class reunion will go to help the Columbia Heritage Foundation Board of Directors maintain the upkeep of the auditorium and old gymnasium and band hall on the campus of what used to be West Columbia Junior High School and Columbia High School prior to 1963.

“We are looking forward to reuniting with many of our old friends we went to school with in West Columbia,” said Heritage Foundation Board President Tracy Gupton, “as well as anyone else who would like to attend our annual Blowout event. My wife Peggy and I both graduated from Columbia High School in 1975, and our graduating class will be celebrating being out of high school 50 years at Saturday night’s big reunion.

“I have heard Reece Cadenhead perform in person many times with his Dad and love listening to Southbound 288,” Gupton said. “They entertained earlier this year behind Prosperity Bank during West Columbia’s San Jacinto Day weekend festivities. I sat and listened to the band with Reece’s mother and grandmother and really enjoyed their selection of songs.”

Southbound 288 specializes in country and rock but will surprise those in attendance at Saturday night’s Roughneck Blowout with the variety of musical selections they will be singing.
